AI and ML to early detect wildfires in California forests

AI to early detect wildfires in California forests and this early detection will help to locate fire incidents before the fire is widely spread.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now being used to control and overcome phenomenon of climate change by the scientists.

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has announced to deploy a new AI based program that uses AI to detect wildfires.

It is revealed that the AI based program is developed in partnership with the University of California San Diego.

The Alert California AI program takes feeds from more than one thousand 360-degree rotating cameras and uses AI to “identify abnormalities within the camera feeds.”

This AI program also notifies any abnormal event of fire to emergency services and other authorities to check and take necessary action.

According to Reuters, the AI enabled program has early detected at least one potential wildfire in the month of July.

A camera reportedly recorded a fledgling fire burning at 3 am in the remote Cleveland National Forest east of San Diego.

The AI spotted the fire incident and immediately alerted the emergency and in response 60 firefighters reached the spot and extinguished the fire within a quick time.

It is revealed on the Alert California technology website that this AI system uses LiDAR scans taken from drones to create equally precise, 3-dimensional aerial information information about identified locations.

The experts have disclosed that the machine learning model is trained on petabytes of data from the cameras to differentiate between smoke and other airborne particles.
