Skardu Airport set to get first international flight from August 14 in line with the government’s efforts to promote tourism and economic activities in the region.
It was told that Skardu Airport was not operating the international flights since the refueling facility was not available at the airport.
However, the authorities have provided the refueling facility at the Skardu Airport and it is set to be inaugurated as an international airport in 11th of August.
Skardu Airport’s runway has also been expanded for landing of wide-body aircrafts, and with this recent expansion, the first international flight from UAE is set to land at Skardu Airport this month.

The Chief Secretary of Gilgit Baltistan told a local publication that the airport that is surrounded by beautiful mountains will be operational for international flights this month.
The Skardu airport in already functional for domestic flights as it is receiving flights from Islamabad, through PIA flights, as well as frequent flights to Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot and Karachi.
In northern areas of Pakistan, it is the only airport that can accommodate wide jets like Airbus A320.
To give Skardu airport status of an ‘international’ airport has been announced a couple of times in recent years however international flights could not be operated.
The arrangements are now made to cater to the fuel needs of international flights, and the facility is expected to be inaugurated later this month.
