Chip enabled e-passport issuance started in Pakistan

Chip enabled E-passport issuance started in Pakistan as the ministry of immigration and passport Pakistan has announced recently.

Initially, the issuance of e-passport was initiated in Islamabad and now the issuance of e-passport has been started across the country.

According to the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, the fee schedule for e-passport has also been released for the public awareness.

The fee for issuance of e-passport is higher than the normal passport. Besides, overseas Pakistanis, now the Pakistani residents can also apply for the e-passport.

According to the announcement, the fee for a 36-page passport for 5 years will be 9 thousand rupees.

Similarly, the fee for an urgent e-passport for 5 years will be 15 thousand rupees.

For a 72-page e-passport, the normal fee will be Rs 16,500 and for an urgent one, it will be Rs 27,000.

For a 36-page passport for ten years, the normal fee will be 13,500 and the urgent fee will be 22,500.

The normal fee for a ten-year 72-page passport will be Rs 24,750, while the fee for an urgent passport will be Rs 40,500.

Under the schedule, normal passport fees will remain as before. The fees have been implemented from August 16.

The process of application and the required documents for both a traditional passport and an e-passport are the same.

Initially when this service was started, it was only for government officials and diplomats, but now ordinary citizens can apply for an e-passport as well.
