Stephen Hawking - A remarkable scientist
Stephen Hawking - A remarkable scientist

5 Wonderful Inventions by Stephen Hawking are discussed in this blog. His full name was Stephen William Hawking and he was one of the most exemplary physicists that the world has ever known in the recent times.

Stephen was British and he was a theoretical physicist and he had credit of several scientific wonderful and ground-breaking innovations and a few of his inventions revolutionised the world of Physics.

Following are five wonderful facts about Stephen Hawking:

  • Hawking lost the black hole bet. He lost a bet once in his life.
  • An amazing fact about Hawking is that he is the author of children’s fiction.
  • He appeared in an American sitcom, The Big Bang Theory.
  • He had a life-threatening infection.
  • Doctors gave him only two years to live.

Most of his contributions have been published in his best-selling book “A Brief History of Time” that was published in 1988.

His major contributions include a wide range of topics such as cosmology, Big Bang, black holes, and light cones among others. 5 Wonderful Inventions by Stephen Hawking are discussed here.

Here are five of his inventions which stand apart in their own right. Let us take a closer look at them.

Theorem of Singularities

Hawking did a path-breaking work in 1970 in reference to the black hole, a celestial body. This work was considered to be the densest material in the universe, that was born out of a massive collapsing star.

He also talked about the singularities those can be defined as a point or region in a particular space and time in which gravity causes matter.

Law of Black Hole Mechanics

Hawking presented an idea of the Black Hole Area in 1972 in the form of a theorem, popularly known as the law of Black Hole mechanics.

This law gave a new dimension to the beliefs about the universe as it states that the total surface area of the black hole can never turn smaller.

He also identified that even though the black hole emits particles, its rate is extraordinarily small, in fact, far too small to be detected. For this reason, the size of the black hole remains unaffected.

Cosmic Inflation theory
In 1982, Hawking found out after an extensive study that the universe has been expanding exponentially, since the Big Bang.

In fact, he was the first theoretical physicist to calculate quantum fluctuations, random and temporary change in the amount of energy in a point in space.

Model of the Universe’s Wave Function
In 1983, he presented the Cosmic Inflation theory, Hawking developed another theory on the formation of evaluation.

Genrally speaking, this theory is a direct continuation of Cosmic Inflation theory and states that the entity of time and space did not exist before the Big Bang explosion.

For this reason, the concept of the beginning of the universe is nothing but meaningless.

Top-Down Theory on Cosmology
Later on, Hawking’s theory on Top-Down Cosmology revealed in 2006 that the universe didn’t have only one unique initial state but consisted of many possible initial conditions.

In fact, it is based on this theory, that modern day physicists trace the histories of the universe backwards.
