UAE to host Asia Cup 2022 as Sri Lanka withdraws from Asia Cup 2022 due to Political and Economy crises.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has retreated from hosting the Asia Cup 2022. They have informed the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) about its inability to host.

According to Sri Lankan media, the SLC informed the ACC about its decision, maintaining that it is “not in a position” to organize the Asia Cup cricket tournament in the country due to the current political and economic conditions of the country.

SLC postponed the third season of the Lanka Premier League due to the economic crisis they are facing. SLC officials expressed their suggestion of hosting the event in the UAE instead.

Asia Cup 2022 is set to initiate on August 27 and end on September 11. UAE to host Asia Cup 2022 as Sri Lanka withdraws from Asia Cup 2022.

The ACC is expected to formally announce the shift of venue in due course.

The ACC will have to speed up the preparations process to ensure there is no delay in the start of the tournament.

The development comes after the SLC recently postponed the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) due to the ongoing crisis.

The Asia Cup is slated to be held in August and September this year before the T20 World Cup in Australia.

A decision to hold the event in the United Arab Emirates hasn’t been finalised yet. The venue could, however, be any Asian country, including India.

Sri Lanka will reportedly consult the UAE Cricket Board, requesting to provide a venue where it can host the event.
