Imran has impaired ties with USA

Imran has impaired ties with USA as said by US Senate Majority Leader, Charles E Schumer has said that he is ready to use his good seats for normalizing the bilateral relationship between the US and Pakistan impaired by former prime minister Imran Khan’s anti-US invectives.

The US senator told a gathering of the American-Pakistan Advocacy Group (APDG) in New York that he repeated the perspective of the Biden administration in relation to Imran Khan’s allegations of the involvement of the US government in toppling his government.

He also termed Imran Khan’s anti-US statement the leading cause as Imran has impaired ties with USA and has caused strained relations between the two countries.

He hoped that the present Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif would improve the situation and he (Schumer) was ready to play his role in improving the bilateral ties between the two countries.

“The US believes in democratic standards and values and respects the democratic process”, said the US Senate Majority Leader, adding that the US followed a strategy to accept those who were elected through the democratic process.

Indicating Imran Khan, Schumer said: “Your former prime minister did not talk positive about the US but the current Pakistani premier is expected to help stimulate bilateral ties between Pakistan and the US.” also said that Imran has impaired ties with USA.

Answering a question as to what the US policy would be if Imran Khan came into power once again after winning elections, he said that the US holds a conference with an elected head of the government, adding that no matter how extremely you disagree with someone, the finest way to resolve the issues is to hold conferences.

The US senator hoped to restore friendly ties between the two countries and added that Pakistan had remained an ally of the US government. When Schumer asked the gathering whom the Pakistani community in the US supported, some of them said Imran Khan while others defused the situation by saying ‘mixed’.

Senator Schumer also slammed the Indian government for persecuting Muslims in India and added that he supported the rights of the Kashmiri people.

The statement of the US senator is quite distinctive and meaningful despite the Indian lobby’s influence on the Biden administration as Schumer is the Leader of the House of his party in the Senate and enjoys great influence.

Besides, no candidate has appeared against him in the upcoming US Senate elections and the chances of his return unopposed are very high.

Surprisingly, the remarks of the US senator, criticizing Imran Khan and pinning hopes on Shehbaz, sent a wave of despair in the gathering of the American Pakistan Advocacy Group.

The sentiments of the organizers of the event were not different from the audience, so they winded up the program abruptly. It is the first time that a key US senator has explicitly opposed Imran Khan’s anti-US rants.
